چکیده

A model combining Discrete Event System (DES) and Multi-Agent System (MAS) is proposed to simulate a real-time job shop so that it can work as a test bed to systematically study the performance of control rules and algorithms in dynamic job shop scheduling. A definition of a generic job shop is given considering dynamic events, shop floor layout and the Material Handling System (MHS). It is first simulated as a DES and then implemented as an MAS so that data recording and analysis can be naturally distributed to the most related entities and events can be executed simultaneously at different locations. The state changes of agents and the communication among them are illustrated with state charts and sequential diagrams in Unified Modelling Language (UML). The proposed model is validated with a case study through statistical analysis and comparison with reported works. 6 R. Zhou, H.P. Lee and A.Y.C. Nee

A multi Agent System Based on Modified Shifting Bottleneck and Search Techniques for Job Shop Scheduling Problems

This paper presents a multi agent system for the job shop scheduling problems. The proposed system consists of initial scheduling agent, search agents, and schedule management agent. In initial scheduling agent, a modified Shifting Bottleneck is proposed. That is, an effective heuristic approach and can generate a good solution in a low computational effort. In search agents, a hybrid search ap...

A Comparison of Job-Shop and Group Technology Using Simulation by ARENA

Production planning is performed through diverse methods according to the type of the system it is structured upon. One of the most important steps before production planning is to determine which system best fits the firm, and how the facilities should be designed. Both job-shop and group-technology systems have their own pros and cons, each of which is suitable to a specific kind of factory. ...
